Huge Litter

Just recently, we went into the rabbit barn and found a nest of 19 baby rabbits, all wriggling around together.

While we were away visiting Abe’s family in May, one of our male rabbits escaped his pen and got in with the females. One month later, we had three does give birth at the same time, in the same nest.

We had heard that, within a colony of rabbits, does will often join their young, but we had never seen it. Usually we only breed one doe each, or every other, week, but Scruffy changed our usual routine.
All three mothers are great rabbits, and they would each go into the nest at different times and nurse. The babies are fat little guys.

17 of the 19 survived, and are now all running around the pen.
